How a project goes
- Digital template of the boat, including in weather that would stop plastic templating.
- Patterns go into CAD so the enclosure can be adjusted before any fabric is cut.
- A digital rendering shows the finished piece on the boat.
- After approval, patterns are plotted to fabric, fabricated, and installed.
- Patterns are stored if a piece needs to be made again.
The shop
Jay and Heather started CYA Canvas in 2017 after a poor cover on their own boat. The work began in a basement and moved into a larger workshop. They still cut and fit the canvas themselves.

Jay at CYA Canvas did a fantastic job redoing our Bimini isenglass and creating some custom cushions for us. Not only was his work top notch but he did everything he said he would do, when he said he would do it, and was an absolute delight to work with. We hired him sight unseen to do work for us on a boat we had never seen, hundreds of miles away... and he did everything with a very high level of trust and professionalism. Needless to say... we recommend him highly.
